Almond oil used in a quality cosmetic product should be of pharmacopoeial quality.

Plant oils have a long history of use in cosmetic products. But how do we know which one will actually benefit our skin? It is important to check the percentage share of the oil in the product formula and its quality.

Nourishment for dry skin

Almonds are a source of many beneficial substances, which is why they were not only eaten but also used to produce skin care oil since ancient times. It is still popular today and it is particularly suitable for the treatment of dry to very dry and sensitive skin. It will protect your skin from cold in the winter months, help prevent the development of stretch marks during pregnancy and keep your hands from becoming dry when alcohol-based disinfectant gels are frequently used. If you wish to moisturize and nourish your hands, almond oil is a good choice.

Pharmacopoeial quality from California

The almond oil used in Spiridea Ointment with Almond Oil is obtained from ripe almond seeds of the Prunus dulcis (Miller) D. A. Webb var. dulcis or Prunus dulcis (Miller) D. A. Webb var. amara (D. C.) Buchheim, or a mixture of both varieties, by cold pressing. It is then refined. “The almonds used are sweet almonds grown for food, not bitter almonds used for extracting aromatic substances. They come from California and their oil is of pharmacopoeial, that is of the highest pharmaceutical quality,” says PharmDr. Soňa Cibulková.

75% of almond oil in each tube

The beneficial effects of almond oil are due to its composition. It contains unsaturated fatty acids – approximately 60% oleic acid and 20% linoleic acid. While oleic acid improves penetration through the top layer of the skin, stratum corneum, linoleic acid is important for the barrier function of the skin, preventing water loss in particular. This is a mechanism observed in very dry skin, for example in atopic dermatitis. “Spiridea Ointment with Almond Oil contains up to 75% almond oil. Carefully selected petrolatum is used to ensure that the ointment is well absorbed and does not leave the skin noticeably oily. It has been tested in the top German RaDes laboratories, also taking good product stability into consideration,” pharmacist Soňa Cibulková adds.
